Best PC optimizer for gaming in 2026
By Austin Copeland, founder of Hypertune. Austin to confirm: one line on why he knows
Last updated 27 October 2026.
The best PC optimizer for gaming is the one that changes the layer you actually need. Use the NVIDIA App or AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition for drivers and overlays. Use MSI Afterburner for a manual GPU overclock you set yourself. Use Hypertune when you want automated CPU and GPU overclocks plus Windows, network, memory and Game Hub profiles in one paid Windows app. Use Hone if you want to start on a free plan. Use Razer Cortex if you already run Razer software and want a free booster.

This page puts free vendor tools first, then compares Hypertune, Hone and Razer Cortex by cost, what each changes, undo, and who each suits. Hypertune wrote it. No tool is best for every PC.
Free vendor tools first: NVIDIA App, AMD Adrenalin and MSI Afterburner
Start here before you pay. These three free tools cover drivers, FPS overlays and hands-on GPU clocks. They do not replace a full PC gaming optimizer that also tunes CPU, Windows, memory and network. Austin signs off the tools named before the page goes live (tracker E4-10).
| Tool | Cost | What it changes | Best for | Limits | Undo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA App | Free (NVIDIA download page, 27 Oct) | Game Ready drivers, in-game overlay and performance overlay, per-game graphics settings for NVIDIA GPUs | NVIDIA owners updating drivers and reading FPS | Does not tune your CPU, system memory or Windows services the way a full PC optimizer does | Change or reset settings in the app; uninstall if needed |
| AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition | Free (AMD product page, 27 Oct) | Adrenalin drivers, metrics overlay, per-game profiles for AMD GPUs | AMD GPU owners updating drivers and reading FPS | GPU and driver focused, not a full system optimizer | Change or reset in Adrenalin; uninstall if needed |
| MSI Afterburner | Free (vendor tool; MSI landing page returned 403 on 27 Oct) | Manual GPU clocks, voltage, power limit and fan curve; on-screen display | Players who want hands-on GPU overclocking | You set and test every change yourself; no CPU, Windows or per-game config automation | Return clocks to default in Afterburner before you close an unstable profile confirm with saved screenshot |
| Hypertune | Paid subscription (see paid table below) Austin to confirm | CPU Overclocking, GPU Overclocking, Windows Debloating, Network Optimizations, Memory Optimizations, Game Hub | Players who want those changes applied and stress-tested together | Paid; Windows only; Game Hub profiles can change files inside a game | Restore tab; Windows restore point |
Hypertune is an Intel and AMD partner and supports NVIDIA graphics cards. NVIDIA is named as supported only. Austin to confirm partner line

Where free tools win
Free tools win in three clear cases.
- Your driver is stale. Install Game Ready or Adrenalin from the GPU maker's app first.
- You only need an FPS overlay or per-game graphics presets. Stay in the NVIDIA App or Adrenalin.
- You already know how to set a GPU curve. MSI Afterburner keeps that control in your hands.
Free tools also win when you refuse a subscription. None of them are worse for being free. They simply stop at the GPU and driver layer.
Hypertune, Hone and Razer Cortex compared
When free tools are not enough, these three apps are the usual next step. Pick by plan type and by what each product changes.

Who each paid option suits:
- Hypertune: you want one paid app that overclocks CPU and GPU, cleans Windows for games, tunes network and memory, and applies Game Hub profiles, then lets you restore.
- Hone: you want a free plan first, then Premium if you hit the optimization limit.
- Razer Cortex: you already use Razer software and want a free game booster without a Hypertune-style hardware pass.
Where Hypertune wins
Hypertune wins when you want those six feature areas in one Windows app: CPU Overclocking, GPU Overclocking, Windows Debloating, Network Optimizations, Memory Optimizations and Game Hub. Overclocks are stress-tested on your hardware before they stick. The Restore tab and a Windows restore point undo changes.
Game Hub profiles change in-game settings through each game's config files, which is the only way to change them, and that is all they change. Hypertune makes no unsafe changes.
From 16 October 2026, Hypertune costs $9.99 a month or $69.99 a year. Austin to confirm Full price facts live on the facts page draft and on hypertune.gg/pricing.

Cleaner apps are not gaming optimizers
A Windows cleaner that deletes junk files is not a PC optimizer for gaming. Cleaners target disk space and general system clutter. A gaming optimizer targets FPS and game-related settings: drivers, overlays, GPU clocks, CPU and memory tuning, Windows services that hurt games, network tweaks, or per-game profiles. If a Reddit thread or listicle mixes both, sort by what the tool changes, not by the word "optimizer" in the title.
How we compared these PC optimizers
Checked on 27 October 2026. Hypertune facts come from V13 and the live pricing page. Hone free-plan limits come from the Hone FAQ on hone.gg. Razer Cortex, NVIDIA App and AMD Adrenalin claims come from each vendor page on that date. MSI Afterburner still needs a saved screenshot because the MSI landing page returned 403. Hypertune wrote this comparison. No lab FPS bake-off is claimed on this page.
Questions
Is a paid PC gaming optimizer worth it?
Yes, when free tools leave FPS and stability short of what you need, and the paid price is worth the gain you measure on your own games. Hypertune's first payment carries a 7-day money-back guarantee so you can measure before you keep it. Austin to confirm
Is Hypertune a Razer Cortex alternative?
Only if you need what Hypertune changes. Cortex is a free Razer booster. Hypertune is a paid Windows app for hardware tuning, Windows Debloating, network and memory changes, and Game Hub profiles. Pick by the changes you need, not by the word "alternative" alone.
Is Hypertune safe with anti-cheat?
Game Hub profiles can change files inside a game. Hypertune makes no unsafe changes. Read the trust page draft for the full safety answers.
Do I still need the NVIDIA App or Adrenalin if I use Hypertune?
Yes. Keep using your GPU maker's app for drivers and the overlay. Hypertune does not replace Game Ready or Adrenalin driver updates.
